GEORGETOWN, Tx. - Berry Women's Lacrosse competed in their second game in Texas over Spring Break this afternoon against Calvin, taking them down 15-10.
With eight different Vikings scoring and
Dani Taraska leading the way with 3 goals, Berry sat pretty comfortably for most of the game. In the goal all 60 minutes was
Myskina Bolavong who came up with 10 saves.
After two initial goals from Calvin,
Molley Cross scored the first one for Berry with an assist from
Maddie Mashburn. The goal would not have been possible without a clutch caused turnover and ground ball from
Katie Claire Smith to spark the momentum. Still down 2-1, close to the 7:30 mark freshman
Isabel Fransen tied it all up in a man-up situation.
Morgan Barton and
Katie Claire Smith found some success in the first period as well scoring two more for th eVikings before Calvin snuck one through with ten seconds to go.
Calvin carried their excitement from a last second goal over to the second period to kick off the scoring in the next 15 minutes, but
Dani Taraska responded on the very next possession and it did not take long for
Morgan Barton to take the score back up by two at 6-4.
At the half, the Vikings were up 6-5. Berry really began to build a lead in the third with coach
Brittni Hall rallying the troops at the halfway point. Four Berry goals where only one was answered by Calvin highlighted the game and third period. The Vikings were getting it done on both sides of the field with Bolavong and the defense containing their opponent and goals from Smith, Annakate Estock and
Maddie Mashburn to spark the offense.
The Vikings went crazy to start the fourth with three goals within a minute and a fourth goal coming a minute later to hop up 14-6. A late run from Calvin would not be enough to make up the deficit that Berry worked so hard to build on.
Women's Lacrosse will be back in action on the road as they continue their Spring Break trip in Oregon, first stop Linfield University on Wednesday at 6:00 PM ET.Â
