DANVILLE, Ky. - The Women's Indoor Track and Field team finalized at the SAA Championships in second place across the two day event.
After leading on day one the team finished with a total of 206 points, just 12 points behind the SAA Champion Centre. The team boasted six new school records along with five SAA Conference Championship records (to help the team to a total of 11 which is the most of any school at the meet).
Coach Luke Syverson is still proud of "the way the team competed and supported each other in the effort to try and do something the team has not done before."
"The women gave everything they had in every event and it was fun to watch their confidence grow."
Anna Rose had a strong performance all weekend long with three first team honors and today she showed out with wins in both the mile and 800m. In the mile she ran a 5:10.27 (a new Centre facility record and SAA Championship record) and in her record breaking 800m (new school record, SAA Championship record, and a New Centre Facility record)Â she ran in 2:20.16.
Olivia Lambert also gained points for Berry in the mile placing 5
th at 5:22.58.
Macy Murdock scored many points for the Vikings in the 60H, 400m and 4x400 relay. She took second in the 60 H and teammate
Josie Loggins tabbed five more points in the event with a 4
th place finish. In the 400m, Murdock and
Julianne Shirley garnered top eight finishes with Murdock taking 4th at 1:00.93 and Shirley in 8
th at 1:02.67.
Freshman
Lucy Nicholson broke the school record in the 60m in her seventh-place finish at 7.96. She also broke her own record in the 200m with a fifth-place finish at 26.14.
Anna Ayers and
Ariel Ellis had top three finishes in the 3000m with Ayers taking gold on her last kick to win the race with a huge PR (10:29.26) and Ellis also posting a PR at 10:34.49
In the field events,
Onoyeme Egure added an entire meter to her PR and the SAA conference record she set last year in the shot put. Her mark of 45'5 is ranked #10 going in the weekend and will qualify her for the NCAA Championships. Teammate
Malysha Winston threw a new lifetime PR to finish right behind her in 2nd.
Avery Jones and
Sophia Hughes also had top seven finishes at fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the triple jump,
Courtney Jones and
Marissa Green fourth and sixth to gather a total of eight points for the Vikings.
The team had a great showing the pole vault with
Madeline Hubbert repeating as conference champion increasing her indoor PR and conference record set last year 3.38m.Â
Emilee Easley placed 2nd right behind in a new lifetime PR of 3.17m. Rounding out the event for Berry was
Ella Pine in fourth and
Addie Blake taking sixth.
