KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Berry Baseball completed the weekend sweep at the D3 College Showcase this morning with their defeat of Susquehanna, 16-6.
Mason Snyder earned the win on the mound throwing 86 pitches with six strikeouts across his 6.2 innings pitched. In relief was
Aubrey Higgins,
Jon Strydom, and
Aubrey Moraitakis to finish off Susquehanna. As a staff they allowed 6 runs on 7 hits with 8 total strikeouts.
Scoring came easy for the Vikings in the bottom of the first inning with three consecutive doubles from
Alex Knapp,
Joey Garcia, and
Nick Brunswick to push two runs across and then a sacrifice flu from
Riley Uhls to score the Vikings third run of the inning.
Snyder held strong on the mound until the top of the third as Susquehanna found three runs on three hits to tie it up. However, Berry took the lead in the bottom of the inning and their bats got hot once again in the bottom of the fourth with 3 hits resulting in four runs. A fielder's choice from
Jameson Farley put
Tanaka Mukono across the plate for a run after he pinch ran for
Hayden Gilbert who reached on a single. Bases loaded hit by pitch for Garcia brought in another run and
Nick Brunswick's single scored one more runner and another crossed on the throw to bring the score to 8-3.
Berry had a three run sixth inning as they still held Susquehanna at three for the game. Susquehanna finally found home plate again in the top of the eighth with three runs on three hits, but as Berry stepped up in the bottom of the eighth, they were determined to capture their second run rule of the tournament.
Four hits equaled five runs for the Vikings to eclipse the 10 run rule limit to take down Susquehanna in the final day of the D3 College Showcase.
Berry returns home to William R. Bowdoin field this weekend to take on the Belhaven Blazers for a single game on Friday and double header on Saturday.
