Box Score KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Berry clinched their second win over Pfeiffer this evening during day two of the D3 Showcase, 17-9.
Pfeiffer opened up the game for Berry walking the team's first two batters and put them in great position to start. The first hit of the game came from
Andrew Pendleton to score
Alex Knapp and a fielder's choice a batter later pushed
Nick Brunswick in for run number two for the Vikings.
Jackson Collet was the starting pitcher for the Vikings throwing the first two innings and giving up one run in the first to cut the lead for Berry at 2-1 and three more runs in the bottom of the second to lift the Falcons up 4-2.
Pendleton's sacrifice fly in the top of the third cut the Pfeiffer lead, but the hot streak continued for the Falcons with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning as
Mason Schoonover came in relief of Collett.
A scoreless forth came for the Vikings and
Cole Porter took his turn on the mound as Pfeiffer claimed their ninth run of the night. Now it was time for the Berry offense to open up and climb back down 9-3. Two runs on two hits from Pendleton and
Riley Uhls claimed two runs for Berry in the fifth and
Rowan Billings on the mound allowed no more Falcon runs in the top of the sixth.
Five runs to capture the lead in the top of the eighth clinched the victory for the Vikings. Four hits for Berry pushed for two mound visits for the Falcons and a replacement on the mound. The pitching staff for Berry held it down for the remainder of the game as the bats stayed hot at the plate for the Vikings.
The top of the ninth showed seven more runs on six hits in the cold weather to shut down any hope from Pfeiffer with Berry taking down the Falcons once again this season and claiming their second win at the D3 College Showcase.
Berry will wrap up in Kannapolis with a morning game at 10:00 AM tomorrow against Susquehanna University.
