MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Women's Soccer faced Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon for a matinee duel, which concluded in a tie.
The first half would see the Vikings throwing the first jab with a shot from Kelsie Crosier that just missed to the left of the goal. The Vikings followed that with seven more shots in the first half which put pressure on the Knights' defense but yielded Berry no points.
Berry played fantastic team defense though, only allowing SVU three shots in the first half. Maggie Jones led the way in goal for the Vikings with four key saves to keep things even.
The second half brought more of the same for both teams with Berry continuing to put pressure on SVU offensively with five second-half shots. The climax of the action for the Vikings came with under ten minutes to play when Nicole Knight sent in a shot that caused the entire crowd to hold their breath, just missing over the crossbar.
Overall, the Vikings had two shots that hit the crossbar as they are itching for their first goal on Pearson Field this season.
The Vikings and Knights continued to clash with physical play on both sides of the ball in the waning minutes of the game, but the exciting action would end in a 0-0 tie.
Berry will compete at home again tomorrow, September 8, at 1 PM ET against Emory University.
