Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Aaron Ursin

Vikings’ Clash with Southwestern Ends in Draw

SAN ANTONIO, Tx. - The Vikings were on the road for a match in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday to face Southwestern University, which ended in a draw.

Berry overcame 8 shots from the Pirates in the first half, due to the stellar play from goalkeeper, Cooper Cherry, who had ten saves for the game. The Vikings would stall on the offensive end with only two shots to threaten Southwestern in the first half.

The defensive struggle continued in the second half as both teams searched for a shot to gouge the net. As the half progressed, Berry began to find a spark with three promising chances late in the game.

Berry's most threatening attack came with just six minutes to go in the game when Pirmin Blattmann rebounded a blocked shot and launched a shot of his own straight on from just outside the penalty box that nearly gave the Vikings the lead. Quick thinking by the Southwestern goalkeeper saved the shot and kept Berry from a late lead.

The two teams continued to battle in the final minutes but neither team was able pull away, ending in a 0-0 draw.

Men's Soccer will continue their stint in Texas with a matchup against Trinity University in San Antonio on Sunday, September 8 at 2:30 PM ET.
