MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry Vikings put on a show at the Cage Center today with a commanding 3-1 victory over the Covenant Scots, bringing their season record to 4-7.
This was a much needed win on Parent's Day as the Vikings took time to give their families a gift and be recognized before the game.
Berry set the tone early, taking the first set 25-20. Key plays came from Kara Schmit and Lindsey MacDiarmid, who each tallied crucial kills to keep the Vikings ahead.
In the second set, Berry maintained their dominance, winning 25-15. The team thrived in transition, with Bella Boston and Lura Underwood stepping up to seal the set with powerful spikes and timely blocks. Underwood had an impressive game, with a team-high 15 total kills and efficient plays that kept Covenant on their heels.
Despite a third-set slip where the Scots clawed their way to a 25-23 victory, Berry bounced back strongly in the fourth. The Vikings showcased their resilience, cruising to a 25-15 win to close out the match. Blakely Barnes and Keira Kruk made key contributions in the final set, shutting down Covenant's late attempts to stage a comeback.
Berry's defensive game was also stellar, with Andrea Hurt and Kate Whittle providing crucial digs that stymied Covenant's offense. The Vikings recorded an impressive 8 team blocks against the Scots.
The Vikings are back in action on Saturday, September 28 in the Cage for their Dig Pink/SAA match up with Millsaps at 12:00 PM ET.
