MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Vikings softball secured their 40
th win in first win of SAA Championship Series, 7-0.
After a 2.5 hour weather delay, the Vikings and Panthers took the field for the 2024 SAA Championship!
Hannah Gore secured her 12
th win in the circle for Berry this season throwing all seven and only allowing five hits, no runs, and posting nine strikeouts!
It all began in the first inning with the shut down of the Panthers and Berry headed to the plate to make things happen offensively.
Ava Fouts led off with a walk, and
Morgan Frye smacked one over the center field fence for a two-run homerun to begin the game!
Now up 2-0, Lauren Cother,
Rachel Runsick, and
Sydney Moroney all brought in a run to make it a five to nothing game and spark the energy as the host team.
Until the fourth, both teams were quiet offensively with the pitchers taking care of things and being aided by the field. Another rain delay persisted, and the teams headed to the dugout for a quick break until the field was prepared for two more Viking runs.
Fouts and Moroney brought in the last two in the fourth and fifth inning as Berry looked to shut out the Panthers in five with a run rule of eight, but BSC held on and pushed through all seven until the Vikings could seal the deal in today's gloomy Championship game.
With the weather still predicting more rain, the second game did not begin and will be played tomorrow at 2:00 PM ET, the if necessary game will follow and an SAA Champion will be crowned on Kay Williams Field.
