MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Vikings softball took a tough loss to the fourth seeded Scots of Maryville College in Game one of the 2024 Division III Softball Regional, 2-1.
Today's game one consisted of a pitching battle between the two teams that had met earlier this season.
In the circle for the Vikings was
Hannah Gore who pitched a complete six innings allowing only two hits with five strikeouts before being relived by
Casey Holloway.
Ackerman pitched all eight for the Scots and took the win, even after allowing eight hits, her defense backed her up to only allow one run by Berry in the eighth.
A stagnant seven innings awoke both teams after a Scots throw out at home on the Vikings to take the win. Now the teams headed to the eighth under the heat. Leading off in the final inning, Maryville notched two runs behind a double from Hill to take the lead at 2-0.
The fight back from Berry came a little too late with
Morgan Frye's double only scoring one run and leaving the Vikings behind with not enough momentum to overcome the deficit.
This loss place Berry in the losing bracket for Game Four of the tournament set to be played against the host team, Huntingdon College, at 2:30 PM ET tomorrow.
