LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Berry Baseball (21-9 overall) traveled to Covenant for a non-conference contest where they defeated the Scots in 7 innings 17-7.
The Vikings began the top of the first with five hits and seven runs to put the Scots away early.
Joey Garcia singled to right field and
Nick Brunswick reached after being hit by a pitch before
Riley Uhls' double scored Garcia to begin the running parade. This marked the first of four hits and four RBI's for Uhls, on his way to lead the team at the plate for the day.
Running through the lineup, the Vikings were having fun after going up 7-0.
Aubrey Higgins started on the mound for Berry in the first and pitched two innings allowing 3 hits and two runs in the Scots effort to catch back up.
With bases loaded, a walk and single scored two more Viking runs to make the score 9-2 in the second inning.
Cam Welsh, the winning pitcher for today, came to the mound in the bottom of the third and the home team would find three runs and three hits to bring the score to 9-5. Things were quite for the next few innings, but the Vikings picked it back up in the sixth.
Going on another tangent at the plate, Uhl's lead off solo homerun sparked the energy back up. Berry found four more runs to make a ten-run deficit for Covenant at 15-5.Â
Alex Knapp also performed well at the plate, going 2-3 with 3 RBIs, 2 runs, and two stolen bases.
The team's 17 runs scored is a season best along with their 14 runs batted in.
