CLEARWATER, Fla. - Berry Women's Lacrosse had a big showing today in their first Spring Break game against Gordon, defeating them 21-7, and increasing their overall record to 5-2.
On a new field, the start of the game looked weary for the Vikings as they missed the first three shots taken, but they never felt defeated and just needed to get the jitters out. Shortly after
AnnaKate Estock found the first Vikings goal from
Haley Larsen.
Molley Cross found the second goal two minutes later to shoot up 2-0 over the Scots of Gordon and now the top three Vikings on the day all had stats.
Estock, Larsen, and Cross combined for 13 of the 21 goals with Larsen leading with five on the game. The trio also scooped 10 ground balls and had 8 assists as a collective group to lead the team offensively.
On the defensive side,
Myskina Bolavong earned another win between the pipes, playing the entire game while Larsen,
Abby Sprayberry, and Anna Claire Smith each had three caused turnovers, and as a team Berry had a staggering 19!
After the first quarter the score was 7-2 and Gordon made a slight comeback in the second that brough the game within three at 9-6. However, the Vikings refused to let that phase them as Head Coach
Brittni Hall called a timeout to regroup the team.
The time out deemed beneficial as the Vikings returned to the field and went on a 12-1 run for the remainder of the game.Â
Berry was firing it past the Gordon goalie with possessions granted by 11 draw controls from Larsen to give her team the momentum and opportunity to score.
Once the game hit 16-6 in the third, the clock kept rolling and the Vikings kept rowing on to a victory.
The team remains in Clearwater, Florida, for the remainder of Spring Break with their next game against Clark University on Wednesday at 11:00 AM ET.
