MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Baseball (14-7 overall, 3-3 SAA) found their second win against the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe to claim the series after splitting yesterday with a win of 6-3.
Nicholas Angelakos remains undefeated on the mound this season with his fourth win after coming in relief of starter
Mason Schoonover allowing only one hit with two strikeouts.
Oglethorpe started the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Two hits in the inning, a single and a double, placed runners on and later scored them for a Petrels 2-0 lead.
It would take a whole inning until the Vikings were able to respond in the bottom of the fifth.
Garrett Lang's single started the bottom of the inning and after advancing to second and stealing third, he was in scoring position with third baseman
Hayden Hightower up to bat. Hightower sent Lang home with a triple to right and
Caleb Spikes followed up to bring in Hightower to tie the game at two runs a piece.
The sixth inning was huge for Berry. With four runs on five hits, the Vikings took the lead that would win them the game. The inning was headlined by two RBI doubles, one from
Riley Uhls and the other by Hightower.
At 6-2, in the top of the ninth all the Vikings needed were three outs to claim the series. Oglethorpe would not go down easy though and found one more run before the team could finalize the game.
The Vikings will return to action on Tuesday at home against Maryville College at 3:00 PM ET.
