Vikings Split with #20 Huntingdon

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - #6 Berry softball (18-3 overall, 3-0 SAA) matched up with #20 Huntingdon (16-2 overall) in today's doubleheader where they took the first game 2-1 and fell in the second 3-2.

Game One Berry 2 - Huntingdon 1

The first game was a battle between the star freshmen pitchers on both teams. Ava Fouts for the Vikings would come out victorious though with eight strikeouts and only one run allowed.

After a silent first two innings, Sydney Moroney landed on base after a single and top tier first baseman Morgan Frye stepped up and tripled to bring her in for the Vikings first run.

In the fifth this time it would be Moroney with the RBI as she brought in Katie Parker who reached on a double to start the fifth.

Up 2-0, the Vikings headed into the top of the 7th, just needing three outs, but the Hawks began to step up their game. With the first two batters getting out, a walk placed the opponent on first and a quick double put the runner in scoring position and scored one.

Only needing one more out, the bases were loaded for the Hawks, but Fouts clinched the final out with a strikeout to take game one.

Game Two Berry 2 - Huntingdon 3

The Hawks bats got hot the first inning of this game as they got on the board first with a quick two run inning to leave the Vikings fighting from behind.

Berry was able to answer in the second and tie the game after a single, sacrifice bunt, and a walk put runners on and in scoring position. Moroney earned her second RBI of the day and Fouts scored Anna Jackson off a single to tie it at two.

The game remained stagnant until the top of the fifth when Huntingdon took the final run of the game with a one run double to right field, taking the 3-2 lead.

The Vikings tried to answer before the close of the seventh but the Hawks defense held strong as the top ranked teams split in today's games.

The Vikings continue their home venture this weekend taking on SAA opponent, Centre College.
