NEW ORLEANS – Official qualifiers for the 2024 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships were announced on Sunday afternoon by the NCAA, featuring two Vikings from the men and women's teams.
Athletes and teams who earned automatic bids to the upcoming NCAA Championships earned their spots on the start line this past weekend during Regional Championships Saturday, while teams selected by the at-large process were judged on their entire body of work.
For the men's team it was
Tucker Wright, who has shown out all season. In the Regional Championship he finished second overall. The sophomore set a new personal record in the South Region Meet at 24:36.5.
Troy Blackwood will be joining him on the course in Indiana. Blackwood placed 19th overall in the South Region with a personal best time of 25:26.6.
On the women's side it is the Anna duo. Anna Ayers will head to Indiana with Anna Rose. Rose and Ayers placed 10th and 11th, respectively, leading the Berry women's cross country team to fourth, one of the highest regional finishes since entering the DIII era of the program. Rose's race was nothing short of incredible. The senior, determined to keep her final cross country season alive, posted her career- best time of 22:16.30. Ayers, in 11th, followed Rose's pace, clocking in less than four tenths of a second after Rose with a time of 22:16.66,
The upcoming NCAA DIII Championships will be held on Saturday, November 23, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
