DANVILLE, Ky. - The Berry College Vikings secured their spot in the SAA Championship with a decisive 3-0 victory over Hendrix on Saturday.
The match was a showcase of exceptional teamwork, highlighted by key milestones and standout performances.
Senior setter
Lindsey MacDiarmid hit a career milestone, recording her 2,000th career assist early in the match. MacDiarmid's precision and leadership set the tone, as she tallied a remarkable 37 assists and added 9 digs to anchor the Vikings' offense.
Offensively,
Lura Underwood delivered an outstanding performance with 11 kills, hitting at a stellar .333 clip, and contributing 16 digs.
There was no need for a reverse sweep tonight as the second set was a breeze for the Viking as they tallied up a 25-11 win over the Warriors. However, the first and third sets were nail biters as the team won by only two points in each to complete the standard sweep.
Berry led the entire set one until a Hendrix's service ace tied it at 23 all, but back-to-back kills from
Keira Kruk and Maddie Whitehead sealed the deal.
Set three took both teams to the 30's, with the exchange of key points and neither team willing to let go and force a set four. After a tough battle last night, the Vikings suited back up to handle business. In the 33-31 win, Berry accumulated 20 kills, and a service ace from Kruk finalized the finish and sent the Vikings back to the Championship game.
The 2024 SAA Championship game will feature the Berry Vikings and Centre Colonels, first serve at 12:00 PM ET in Danville, Kentucky.
