Box Score MOUNT BERRY, Ga.- The Berry Vikings (3-1, 1-1 SAA) suffered their first loss of the season to Southern Athletic Association foe No.5-ranked Trinity 46-37 on Saturday afternoon at Valhalla Satudum. Blake Hembree set a new career best for passing yards in a single game with 319 and throwing four touchdowns on the Tigers.
Trinity struck first on the ground with a 2-yard touchdown setting the tone for an offensive battle. On the next drive, Hembree found Khamari Smith for 53 yards to make it 7-7. The Tigers shut down Berry's run game in the first half, leaving Hembree looking down field to Deiondre Wilson, and connected for a 35-yard touchdown sending Valhalla to their feet. The Tigers tacked on a field goal to cut their deficit to four points to start the second quarter.
Hembree continued his roll in the air, finding a third wide receiver in Bryce Herring for a 53 yard touchdown, the third touchdown of the afternoon. Berry continued to offensively dominate Trinity when Brandon Cade got a piece of the action dashing for a 88-yard touchdown pushing the Viking lead to 29-13. The Tigers got in the endzone just before the end of the half to make it 29-20.
Coming out of the locker room the Tigers put up two touchdowns taking their first lead since the first quarter. But the Viking offense continued to fight back when Smith caught his second touchdown of the day for 58 yards which gave the lead right back to Berry.
Trinity was able to poke holes in the Viking defense in the remaining minutes of the fourth quarter leading them to tack on the final 12 points of the game.
Smith led the team in receiving with 127 yards, Cade led in rushing yards, totalling 163 on the day. Brock Skinner and John Mancuso led in tackles with seven and half each.
The Vikings will be back on the road on Saturday traveling to Georgetown, Tx. to take on Southwestern University. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. EDT.
