MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -
Dani Taraska scored three goals and added three draw controls, but Berry's women's lacrosse team suffered its first home loss of the season, 17-6, to DePauw at Valhalla Stadium Monday evening.
The Vikings (11-2) fell behind 4-0, but a natural hat trick by Taraska quickly closed the gap to 4-3 with 5:17 left in the opening quarter. Taraska scored the three goals within 88 seconds of each other, getting an assist on the second from
Molley Cross and the third from
Haley Larsen.
Larsen would take the opening draw of the second quarter and sprint down field for the game-tying goal, making it 4-4. Unfortunately, that would prove to be Berry's final goal of the quarter as DePauw (7-1) went on a 4-0 run to close the half, taking an 8-4 lead into the break.
The visitors would score to make it 9-4 with just over three minutes gone in the third quarter, but a Cross goal on a feed from
AnnaKate Estock had Berry working a 9-5 deficit with 11:11 left in the third. That would be as close as the Vikings would get the rest of the way as an 8-0 run would make it 17-5 before Larsen's final tally with 2:30 left in the game.
The Vikings will be back in action Saturday at Sewanee in Southern Athletic Association play. Opening draw is set for 2 p.m. EDT.
