MOUNT BERRY, Ga.— Sydney Blankenship went 6-for-6 from behind the arc as the Berry women's basketball team fell to Southern Athletic Association foe Millsaps College 71-67 Friday night in The Cage Center.
The Majors overcame what was a slim Berry lead with seven minutes left to go in the second half. The Vikings were trailing by six when Blankenship netted a 3-ball to tighten the deficit to three. Elly Callahan drew a foul to tighten the score to 62-61. With 15 seconds, Kahoro drove in a layup to take the deficit to two with a score of 67-65. Lee made a a shot at the buzzer for the final.
Callihan started strong in the first to put the first five on the board herself, leading the Vikings to an 8-0 run. The score was 23-15 at the end of the first quarter. In the second, Millsaps fought to tighten Berry's lead to one, making the score 30-29 heading into the locker room.
Throughout the third, the Majors fought to keep the score tight, taking their first lead with five minutes left in the quarter. With under two minutes left in the third, Callihan tied up the game, 46-46. Sylvia Kahoro drained a three to take back the lead, 49-47. The score difference in the third did not exceed five for either team.
Three of the Vikings scored in the double digits. Blankenship led the team with 18 points, Callihan with 17, and Kahoro with 11. Callihan led with eight rebounds.
The Vikings will be back in action Sunday afternoon with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m. against SAA opponent Birmingham Southern College in The Cage Center.
