Vikings Conquer Colonels 3-1

Box Score

MOUNT BERRY, Ga.- The No. 13-ranked Berry Vikings volleyball team will sleep well tonight knowing that after four intense sets against Centre College, they are still undefeated in Southern Athletic Association play. Berry's ability to capitalize on consecutive Colonel errors launched the Vikings to a 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 19-25, 25-15) victory on Saturday afternoon at The Cage Center on Alumni Day.

The Vikings (16-4, 10-0 SAA) dominated the Colonels (13-7, 7-2 SAA) from the get-go. Errors proved to be the Centre's kryptonite in the first set. The Vikings climbed to a quick 19-9 lead, led by 20 assists from Lindsey MacDiarmid and four kills from Jazzy Innis. Most of Berry's points are thanks to capitalizing on 16 Colonel errors, five of which occurred during Berry's last six points of the set.

Berry elevated their offensive attack in the second set, totaling 12 kills dispersed between six players. Junior Bella Boston led the aggressive attack with four kills of her own, increasing Berry's lead to 2-0.

Though it seemed like the Vikings had sealed the Colonel's fate, Centre did not want to leave Mount Berry empty handed. Centre trailed Berry 7-12 in the third set, but five kills and an error quickly relinquished Berry's lead and tied the score at 13-13. The nationally ranked team could not regain momentum and lost the set 19-25.

When the Berry volleyball team is concerned, the comeback is always greater than the setback. The Vikings found their footing as they tallied 11 kills and four service aces in the final set of the game. For the second consecutive time, four sets were all Berry needed to beat the Colonels.

Boston double-doubled with 10 kills and 17 digs. Wearing the Libero shirt, Kate Whittle tallied 27 digs on the day, complimenting Innis' 16 digs, and MacDiarmid's 15.

The Vikings will continue their quest to remain undefeated in the SAA as they take on Rhodes College for the second time this season on Oct. 21 at 12:00 p.m. EDT at The Cage Center.
