MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Lindsey Francingues scored the game's only goal in the 66th minute as Berry defeated Maryville, 1-0, Friday night at Bob Pearson Field for the third-straight win for the Vikings.
"Our effort has been fantastic," said Berry head coach
Kathy Brown. "It's massive to get a win against teams people know and against a regionally-ranked team like Maryville."
After a scoreless first half, Berry would get on the board before the midway point of the second period. Francingues received a long ball down field and was one-on-one with a Maryville defender. After a couple of dribbles that deflected off of the two players, Francingues regained control inside the box and fired a shot to the goalkeeper's right into the bottom corner of the net.
The Vikings (4-2) had 51 percent of the possession in the game; however, 75 percent of that possession was in the Maryville (4-2) half of the field.
Berry's defense held Maryville to just four shots in the game, with only two shots on target.
Julia Massa recorded her third consecutive clean sheet with two saves in the victory.
The Vikings will return to action Sunday at Bob Pearson Field as they play host to Washington & Lee. Opening kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
