MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry's women's soccer team was stymied defensively Friday afternoon at Bob Pearson Field as visiting Rhodes used a second half corner kick to earn a 1-0 victory over the Vikings in Southern Athletic Association play.
Berry (8-4, 4-1) mounted offensive efforts but couldn't get a shot on target in the contest. Rhodes (4-4-1, 3-2) also had just seven shots in the contest, with only two going on target. The difference in the game proved to be a corner kick in the 49th minute for the Lynx that was converted into a goal on the only shot on target in the second half for either side.
The Vikings would have a chance with a corner kick a few minutes later as the delivery went over the outstretched arms of the Rhodes keeper; however, no Viking could get to the ball and put it on target.
BC now falls into a share of first place in the SAA with Centre but still controls its own destiny for the top seed in the SAA Championships; however, the team will need to win both of its remaining games, beginning with Sunday's Senior Day contest against Hendrix. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Bob Pearson Field.
