Berry's women's basketball team started the 2022 portion of the home schedule off with a win Friday night against Southern Athletic Association foe Centre College, as the Vikings defeated the Colonels 48-40.
The win gives Berry a 2-1 record in SAA play and improves the team to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in SAA play, while Centre falls to 6-8 overall and 3-1 in the SAA.
Right from the tip-off it was a low scoring, defensive battle between the two teams.
After being down 14-11 early in the second quarter, the Vikings gained momentum after a three-pointer from
Sydney Blankenship and took a 23-22 halftime lead.
The two teams struggled to find the points in the third period as Berry held a 32-29 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, where the Vikings started to pull away and sew up the win thanks to a solid shooting night at the foul line. Berry went 14-of-16 at the line in the final 10 minutes and ended the game connecting on 19-of-23 shots from the line.
Kish Chandler led the Vikings with 16 points with Blankenship following with nine.
Kennedy Moore led the team with eight rebounds.
Berry is back in action on Sunday in The Cage for another SAA test against Sewanee at 1 p.m.
