Box Score 3 Birmingham, Ala. – The Berry softball team dropped two of the three games in Birmingham over the weekend to open up conference play. The Vikings are now 10-4 overall and 1-2 in the SAA.
Games one and two were on Saturday, with
Madison Hollis (4-2) getting the start in game one and
Meredith Holland (4-1) in game two.
The Panthers of BSC came out swinging and connected with 14 hits in game one and eight in game two. For Berry,
Samantha Crabtree,
Shelby Daniel and
Bayleigh Masterson each had two hits in game one, while
Aleeya Thornton and
Anna Jackson added two in game two. BSC took game one 8-3 and game two 11-5.
The final game of the series was on Sunday, with Berry claiming the 10-8 win. Holland got the start and the win, giving up six hits and four runs in four innings pitched.
Offensively, the bats came alive for Berry with Daniel, Crabtree,
Morgan Frye and
Brooke Whittemore tallying two hits, both of which were doubles for Crabtree.
Anna Jackson had a triple in the third to score the first points of the game and put Berry up 2-0.
Overall, smart baserunning and big contact at the plate kept the Vikings ahead late in the game to secure the 10-8 win.
