Men’s Basketball Tops BSC in Dominate Fashion

Rome, Ga. – The Berry College men's basketball team defeated Birmingham-Southern in both games of the weekend series on Saturday and Sunday.

Game one on Saturday concluded with an 80-65 Viking victory. Austin Brooks tallied a double-double, with 19 points and 16 rebounds. DJ Estes added 16 points for Berry. As a team, the Vikings shot 57-percent (35-61) from the field and held the Panthers to 39-percent (24-61).

At halftime, Berry had a nine-point lead, but a good three-pointer from Rob Mbenoun in the second half put the Vikings up by 11 and they took care of business from there, securing the 15-point victory.

In game two, the Vikings' defense played gritty and only gave up 59 total points to BSC, holding to just 38-percent from the field and 23-percent from the arc. Berry shot 51-percent from the field.

Austin Brooks led all scorers with 27 and seven rebounds. Michael Johnson added 12 points.

"I am really proud of our guys and the way they competed this weekend," said head coach Mitch Cole. "It started with a great week of practice. Birmingham-Southern is a high scoring, well coached team and our guys met the challenge. We got some quality minutes out of some players throughout the roster which makes it fun. Hopefully we can finish well and play our best basketball down the stretch."

Berry will host Oglethorpe this weekend for their final two games of the season.
