Maryville, Tenn. – The Berry College baseball team scored four runs in the eighth inning on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Maryville 5-4 to remain undefeated.
Brady Drummond earned his first win of the season, tossing one inning and allowing two runs.
Mason Carnes collected his second save, retiring the Scots' hitters in the bottom of the ninth.
The Scots went ahead 1-0 in the second inning, but the Vikings quickly tied it up in the third following a single from
Zack Walch. The Scots went ahead 4-1 in the seventh inning after a homerun scored two.
Heading into the eighth, the Vikings were trailing 4-1, but Walch picked up where he left off and singled down the left field line, scoring
Walker Payton who reached on a single.
Tyler Calvert, reached on a fielder's choice, which scored
Dalton Smith who had singled earlier in the inning, and
Nick Brunswick then connected with a single to center field, scoring both Walch and Calvert. Carnes retired the Scots to secure the save and win.
