The Berry equestrian team, the No. 1-ranked team in the region, closed out the fall portion of its season collecting a number of honors and ribbons at the recent two-day Western and Hunt Seat competition hosted by Auburn.

                The Vikings opened the weekend competing in a pair of Western shows claiming second place in the first event, then capturing first place in the second session.

                In the first show, Autumn Lance was High Point Rider.  Also, Morgan van Hoven qualified for Regionals in Beginner Horsemanship. 

                The individual results from that show were:

• Open – Rette Solomon 2^nd
• Level II Ranch Riding – Lance 2^nd
• Level II – Lance 1^st
• Level I – Joyce Beall 1^st, Allison Morehouse 3^rd, Brooke Backlund 4th
• Rookie B – Taylor McIntosh 1^st
• Beginner - van Hoven 3^rd

                In the second show, Solomon was Reserve High Point Rider and Berry's individual results were:

• Open reining – Solomon 2^nd
• Open – Solomon 1st
• Level II Ranch riding – Lance 1st
• Level II – Lance 3^rd
• Level I – Backlund 1^st, Beall 2^nd, Morehouse 2^nd
• Rookie B – Taylor McIntosh 1^st
• Beginner – Brianna Blanchard 2^nd

                   The next Western shows for the Vikings will be Feb. 19 at Berry's Gunby Equine Center.

                On the second day of competition at Auburn, the Vikings finished fifth overall in a tight finish in which only a few points separated first from fifth place. 
The individual results were:

• Open fences – Karis Bachman 5^th
• Open flat – Keely Gray 4^th
• Intermediate fences – Marcelene Leverett 2^nd, Gray 5^th
• Intermediate flat – Karis Bachman 1^st, Leverett 3^rd
• Limit fence – Maddie Rahe 2^nd, Skylar Maitland 3^rd
• Limit flat – Solomon 2^nd, Maitland 2^nd, Rahe 3^rd
• Novice hs – Fiona Albertson 6^th
• Introductory – van Hoven 2^nd

                The next hunt seat competition is Feb. 5-6 at Georgia.
