Box Score 2 ROME, Ga. — The Berry College softball team opened conference play with a doubleheader sweep of the Sewanee Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Kay Williams Field.
Berry improves to 5-1 and 2-0 in league play while the Tigers fell to 2-10 and 0-2 in conference.
Madison Hollis claimed the win in the opening game, improving to 3-0 on the year. She allowed no earned runs and struck out four. Makenzie Flynt earned the win in game two, tossing 3.0 shutout innings.
The Vikings jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first three innings in game one before Sewanee broke up the shutout in the fourth inning. Abbey Gamble and Lauren Baccari added RBI hits in the fourth before Madison Morgan sent the team's first home run of the year over the center field wall in the sixth inning to secure the 10-1 run-rule win.
Hunter Padgett opened game two with an RBI single, but Sewanee evened the game in the top of the second at 1-1. Berry then plated four in the home half of the inning. Baccari added an RBI single in the third before a three run sixth inning secured the win for Berry.
The Vikings return home tomorrow at noon to wrap up the series with Sewanee.
