Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 19 Berry College Volleyball team fell behind 2-0 at No. 11 Ithaca, but swung the momentum to claim the final three sets in a season-opening thriller at the Ithaca Bombers Invitational.
A program-record 19 service aces helped the Vikings to the 3-2 win. Carson VanCampen recorded nine blocks, the second most blocks in a five-set match in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ithaca claimed set one 25-22. Berry went on a 3-0 run late to make it 20-19, but the Bombers offense was efficient to close the set out, hitting .385.
- The Bombers walked away with set two 25-19, hitting .243.
- Berry finally slowed the Ithaca offense in set three, holding the Bombers to just a .111 hitting percentage. The Vikings jumped out to a 6-1 advantage to lead the way to a 25-22 set score.
- The Vikings pulled out set four 25-23, holding the Ithaca offense to a .068 hitting percentage.
- Berry then claimed its 10th straight five-set victory dating back three years, closing out the match with a 15-10 fifth-set victory.
