MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Berry College softball team plated five runs in the top of the sixth inning in game one to defeat Emory University, 5-1. The Vikings, however, could not defeat the Eagles twice, as they fell 5-4 in eight innings in the regional final.

BC finishes the season with a program-best 39-8 record. EU advances to super regional play with a 43-5 record on the year. The Eagles will host Benedictine in the Super Regionals.

In game one the Vikings were behind 1-0 until the sixth inning. A pair of singles from Elisabeth Federici and Brittany Tuttle, as well as two Emory errors and a walk, scored five BC players and ensured the 5-1 victory.

Marie Collop led the Berry offense in game one, batting 3-for-4 at the plate. Collop scored once in the win as well.

Both Tuttle and Kenzie Fleming added two hits in the win. Tuttle was 2-for-3 at the plate and knocked in one RBI. Fleming hit 2-for-4.

Four other Vikes added one hit in the win: Brittany Ferrell, Sarah Moore, Federici and Katlin Seger.

Kassie Howard (28-2) earned the complete-game win on the mound. Howard allowed only four hits in the outing, while striking out two and walking seven.

For the Eagles, Cassie Baca led the offense with one hit and the sole RBI. Alyssa Pollard, Janelle Turnquest and Sam Vincent rallied for the final three EU hits.

Brittany File took the loss in the circle for Emory. File tossed five innings, allowing eight hits and three runs.

Emory prevailed in game two, 5-4, in eight innings.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs before the Vikings crossed home plate. Berry mounted a comeback and tied the game at four apiece, scoring runs in each of the last three innings.

Fleming singled in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Sarah Brown and send the game to extra innings.

Emory's Emmeryn Wheelan pinch hit and singled to start the eighth inning. Pollard and Taylor Forte then moved Vincent (a pinch runner) to third, following a sac bunt and a ground out. A Berry error with two outs scored Vincent the final run of the game.

Tuttle and Moore led the BC offense in the loss, tabbing two hits each. Ferrell, Collop, Fleming, Seger and DeBusk rounded out the offense with one hit apiece.

Howard started the game on the mound for the Vikes. She threw 3 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and four runs. Allie Coronado (9-6) took the loss on the mound, tossing the final four frames for Berry. Coronado allowed only three hits and one run in the outing.

Amy Wray and Baca led the EU offense in the win, adding two hits each.

File (32-3) earned the complete-game win in the circle for the Eagles. She allowed ten hits and four runs, striking out eight in the nightcap. Named the regional tournament MVP, File threw 171 pitches in the game.

For Berry, Ferrell, Collop and Howard were named to the Mount Berry Regional Tournament Team.
