Box Score 2 JACKSON, Miss. -- The Berry College baseball team split a conference doubleheader at Millsaps on Saturday. The Vikings took game one, 7-1. The Majors prevailed in the nightcap, 4-3.
Berry moved to 25-11 and 11-7 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Majors are now 17-17, 10-8.
In game one, Ben Jernigan led the Vikings on the mound and at the plate in the 7-1 win. He tossed a nine-inning complete game and improved to 4-3 on the season. He gave up one run, scattered seven hits, struck out six, and allowed three walks.
Jernigan was 2-for-2 hitting with a solo home run, two walks, and scored twice. Grant Perkins (two runs) and Brady Smith also collected two hits in the contest.
The Vikings led 3-0 and then plated three runs in the seventh frame to break the game open.
Jimmy Fondren had a pinch-hit RBI double for Millsaps. The Vikes outhit MC, 10-7.
In the second game, Millsaps plated one run in the final inning to win, 4-3, and prevent a BC sweep. Lee Ogletree tripled to left center to score Isaac Glenn for the walk off winner off Berry's Parker Austin (2-1).
Alfred Francis went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Vikings. Casey Whitaker had a double and one triple in three at-bats. Perkins went 2-of-3 in the nightcap.
Andy Page hit 3-for-3 to pace Millsaps' hitters. Chris Guerin (2-1) threw the final two frames and got the win for the Majors. Both teams had nine hits in the contest.
The Vikings host Birmingham-Southern next weekend.
