Softball Wins on Sunday at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Both Elisabeth Federici and Katlin Seger had two hits and two RBIs as the Berry College softball team swept Rhodes College, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon.

The win improved the Vikings to 24-6 overall and 10-2 in the Southern Athletic Association. The loss dropped the Lynx to 18-13 and 4-11.

Seger's and Federici's two hits apiece led the BC offense. They were both 2-for-3 at the plate, scored once, and knocked in two runs for the Vikings.

Federici hit a two-run double in the top of the first to open up the Berry scoring. Seger then added a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to round out the Vikings' offense for the day.

Three other BC players added one hit in the win: Brittany Ferrell, Brittany Tuttle and Sarah Moore. Ferrell and Tuttle each scored once for the Vikings as well.

For the Lynx, Caroline Sutton led the offense with two hits in the loss. Teammates Rachel Pewitt, Kirsten Samuels, and Karrah Flores had one hit apiece as well.

Pewitt homered in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the Lynx on the board. Samuels then singled to left field to knock in the final Rhodes' RBI.

Kassie Howard (22-3) earned the win for BC. Howard tossed five-complete innings in the win, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out eight in the outing.

Marie Collop earned the save, pitching the final two innings for Berry. Collop allowed only one hit and struck out two to close the game.

Caroline Reilly (3-2) took the loss in the circle for Rhodes. Reilly threw five and 2/3 innings for the Lynx, allowing seven hits and four runs. Allison Long finished the game on the mound, tossing the final one and 1/3 innings for Rhodes.

The Vikings will travel to Jackson, Mississippi for their next SAA match-up against Millsaps College on Saturday, April 9. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
