ROME, Ga. -- Ashley Kesselring scored Berry's lone goal as the Berry College women's lacrosse team fell to Rhodes College, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The game --which was the last regular season conference contest for the Vikes--dropped BC to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the Southern Athletic Association. The win improved the Lynx to 11-4 and 5-1.
Rhodes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring twice within three minutes of play. The Lynx led 6-0 at the half.
Kesselring's tally with 15:55 to play in the game prevented the Rhodes' shutout.
Keiley Ayers led the Vikings in shots on the day, adding three. Kesselring, Angelica Miller and Kelsey McAnnally each collected two shots apiece.
For the Lynx, Kendall Cunningham led the offense with three goals in the win. Teammate Olivia Holmes added two goals in the victory as well.
Ella Makin (8-7) took the complete-game loss in goal for BC. Makin collected three saves in her 60 minutes of work for the Vikings.
For Rhodes, Katherine Tooley (10-4) earned the win in goal, allowing only one goal, while collecting six saves in the outing.
The Lynx led the Vikings in draw controls (6-3), shots (12-9) and ground balls (11-9). Rhodes also forced 18 BC turnovers to their 15.
The Berry College women's lacrosse team earned the fifth seed in the SAA tournament. The Vikings will play at #4 Sewanee next Friday in a quarterfinal match.
