BC Softball Completes Sweep at Millsaps on Sunday

JACKSON, Miss. -- Marie Collop and Elisabeth Federici each had two hits apiece as the Berry College softball team defeated Millsaps College, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon to sweep the series. 

The win improved the Vikings to 27-6 overall, and 13-2 in the Southern Athletic Association. The loss dropped the Majors to 18-19 and 7-8.

Collop was 2-for-4 on the afternoon, while Federici was 2-for-3. Federici also scored twice for the Vikes.

Five other Vikings added a hit in the win: Brittany Ferrell, Katlin Seger, Sarah Moore, Kenzie Fleming and Sarah Brown.

Ferrell and Seger each hit a home run on the day as well, knocking in one and two RBIs respectively.

Fleming and Ally Claytor rounded out the BC offense, hitting in the final runs for Berry.

Ferrell's home run in the top of the first inning put the Vikes ahead, 1-0. Brown then doubled in the top of the second to bring home Federici, moving the score to 2-0. The score remained until the top of the seventh inning.

Berry then plated four insurance runs for the 6-0 victory.

For the Majors, Missy Romero had the only hit of the day.

Kassie Howard (19-2) earned the one-hit win on the mound for BC. Howard tossed all seven innings, allowing five walks and striking out 10 batters on the afternoon. 

Berry hosts Covenant College in their next game on Tuesday, April 12. First pitch of the double-header is set for 2 p.m.
