Volleyball Defeats Oglethorpe in Straight Sets

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Teagan Holderfield had 13 digs and 6 kills as the Berry College women's volleyball team defeated Oglethorpe University in straight sets in a Southern Athletic Association match-up on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set scores were 25-15, 25-15, and 25-16.
  • The Vikings added 34 kills to the Stormy Petrels' 18.
  • Berry also led the match in digs (56-48) and assists (33-17).

BERRY STATISTICAL STANDOUTS:

  • Jessica Gum: 8 kills, .636 attack percentage
  • Hannah Kate Thompson: 20 assists, 2 kills, 6 digs
  • Katie Truluck: 13 digs, 4 assists, 4 aces
  • Holderfield: 13 digs, 6 kills, 1 assist

OGLETHORPE STATISTICAL STANDOUTS:

  • Santreece Stephens: 7 kills
  • Jordan Jones: 17 assists, 4 digs, 1 kill
  • Anna Rash: 16 digs, 1 ace

NOTABLES:

  • The Vikings move to 13-5 overall and 6-2 in the SAA.
  • The Stormy Petrels drop to 7-10 and 1-7.
  • Gum continues to lead the conference in kills, with 179.
  • Thompson also leads the SAA in assists per set, with 9.75, and Truluck leads in digs with 342.

The Vikings will travel to Sewanee, Tenn., to play Sewanee in their next SAA contest. Game time is set for 7:00 pm on Friday, October 7.
