#17 Volleyball Upended by Top-Ranked Emory, 3-1

ROME, Ga. – Top-ranked Emory University defeated #17 Berry College, 3-1, on Tuesday night. Set scores were 25-18, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-21.

The Eagles moved to 10-0 and the Vikings fell to 8-2.

The match was "Pack the House" night for Berry volleyball and 600 fans watched the match at the Cage Center.

Katie O'Rourke had 11 kills and hit .357 to lead the Vikings' offense. Emily Stromberg had 11 kills as well. Katie Truluck notched a match-best 31 digs for the home team and Lauren Schmitz dished 41 assists. Jessica Gum had eight blocks (one solo) for the Vikes.

After Emory took set one, Berry raced out to an early 9-6 lead before EU regained control and prevailed, 25-23.

In the third set, the Vikings posted a team hitting percentage of .262 and won 25-21. For the match, Emory hit .214 to BC's .195.

"I was very pleased with how hard we fought--especially in sets three and four--and I was pleased that we started to get more comfortable blocking against their quick tempo," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. "I credit Emory with running a great offense that challenged our defense differently than any teams we have played so far this year."

For Emory, Kathryn Trinka recorded 15 and Sarah Maher added 13 kills.

The Vikings return to action this weekend--and open SAA play- at Birmingham-Southern on Saturday.
