ROME, Ga. - - With two goals in the second half, the Berry College men's soccer team defeated Averett University, 3-1, on Friday afternoon.
The win improved the Vikings to 2-1-1. The loss dropped the Cougars to 1-3.
Averett's goal came in the ninth minute when Tobias Andreasson converted a penalty kick after a Berry handball in the box.
The Vikings quickly tied the game up, as Jeremy Beam scored off a pass from Connor Garrett in the 11th minute, evening the score 1-1. The score remained tied going into the second half.
BC then went ahead, 2-1, in the 59th minute when Anu Campbell scored off of Caleb Ford's pass.
Less than a minute later, the Vikes' Bobby Grunow scored following a corner kick. J.T. Kieffer earned an assist on the play.
Berry led in both shots (30-10) and corner kicks (9-3).
Zachary Wroblewski earned the complete game win in the goal for Berry. He collected five saves on the afternoon. For the Cougars, John Matrisciano had 11 saves.
"We started a little slow and improved as the game progressed," said Berry Head Coach Richard Vardy. "I'm pleased, as we are continuing to get better as a team"
The Vikings will take Ford Field against Wheaton (Ill.) tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the third match of the 2015 Berry College Invitational.
