MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Emily Stromberg recorded her 1,000th career kill as the Berry College volleyball team defeated Maryville College, 3-0, on Tuesday. The set scores were 25-23, 25-16, and 25-19.

The win improved BC to 1-0 on the season. The loss dropped MU to 0-1.

"On her fourth kill of the night, Emily joined some elite company of volleyball players," said Vikings' Head Coach Mika Robinson. "What is incredible about her is her servant's heart and her incredible work-ethic. In typical Emily fashion, however, she barely batted an eye after the record was announced."

Stromberg is just the second Viking to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career (Amanda Stiefel is the other). She added a match-high 15 digs in Tuesday's win.

Teammate Lauren Schmitz dished 30 assists in the sweep. Katie Truluck added 14 digs for the visitors.

The Scots (0-1) were led by Sophia Del Campos' match-best 12 kills.

"Coming into tonight, we talked a lot about controlling the first contact to give us a variety of offensive options," said Vikings' Head Coach Mika Robinson. "Our defensive specialists, in particular, really took that to heart and did a great job of creating opportunities for Lauren to get the ball to our middles. Overall, we felt like it was a great way to start the season with a win over a perennial NCAA tournament team on the road."

The Vikings begin play on Friday at the Roger Williams Tournament in Rhode Island.
