Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Jake Emche scored with 2:44 remaining in the first overtime period to lift Berry College to a 9-8 win at Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday. Cory Hall earned the assist on the game-winning tally.
With the win Berry improved to 10-4 and 5-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Vikings ended the regular season in a tie for first place with both Sewanee and Centre. The Panthers dropped to 8-7 and 3-3 in the SAA.
Hall had 3 goals and an assist for BC. Emche scored twice and earned 1 assist. Christian Akers and Maxwell Smerka both added 2 goals for the visitors.
The Vikings led in shots (39-26) and ground balls (33-24). Both teams won 10 faceoffs in the match.
Akers tallied the match's first goal off an assist from Emche just 1:38 into the contest. BSC, however, scored the next 4 goals. BC then closed the scoring with 4 straight of its own and held a 5-4 edge at halftime.
The Vikings held an 8-6 lead after Smeka tallied with 8:37 left in regulation. BSC, however, netted 2 more goals and sent the contest to overtime with a score from Justin Dennis with 54 seconds on the clock.
Nick Voso collected 4 saves for Berry. His cournterpart, Connor Perine, stopped 9 BC shots.
The Vikings host an SAA quarterfinal match on Saturday.
