Box Score 2 ROME, Ga. -- The Berry College softball team split a doubleheader with ninth ranked Emory on Wednesday. The Vikings took game one, 3-1, and the Eagles prevailed in the nightcap, 5-1.
Berry moved to 19-6 on the season. Emory is now 25-3.
In the first game Berry got a clutch pitching performance and back-to-back home runs in the second inning en route to the 3-1 win.
In the second frame, Kenzie Fleming hit a 2-run homer to left field to score Ally Claytor. Elisabeth Federici then followed with a long ball, also to left field.
Berry had 4 hits to Emory's 3. The Eagle's lone run came on a Amy Wray home run to right field.
Freshman Kassie Howard improved to 11-1 after tossing the complete game. She struck out 3 and walked 2 hitters.
Sydney Carpenter took the loss--her first of the year--for the Eagles. She dropped to 13-1, fanned 9 batters and allowed 2 walks.
The Eagles took the second game, 5-1.
Although BC's Brittany Ferrell (2-for-3) scored the first run of the game on Sarah Moore's (2-of-3) single into right field, the Vikings could not rally for another run the rest of the game.
Emory's Micah Scharff and Alyssa Pollard led the Eagles' offense with 2 hits apiece in the win.
Berry will host Centre College in their next doubleheader on Friday, April 3, at 1 p.m.
