Softball: Berry and BSC split again

BIRMINGHAM -- For the second straight day, Berry College and Birmingham-Southern College split a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader. BC rallied to take game 1, 3-2. BSC won game 2, 3-0.

Both teams are now 6-4 and 2-2 in the SAA.

The Vikings trailed 2-0 heading to the seventh inning in game one. However, the Vikings got doubles from Kenzie Fleming and Rachel Bartoe in the frame and scored 3 times to get the victory.

Freshman Kassie Howard (5-1) pitched the last 4 2/3 innings for BC and earned the win. She allowed no runs, gave up 3 hits and struck out 5 Panthers.

In game 2, Panther pitcher Brittany Fronk tossed a 3-hit shutout en route to the win. She struck out 6 Vikings in the contest.

Kylie Aiken, Bartoe and Brooke Mackelburg had singles for Berry. Starting pitcher Kayla Davis dropped to 0-2 after taking the loss.

The Vikings begin their spring break games in Clermont, Fla. on Tuesday.
