Vikings Split on Friday at Emory Invite

ATLANTA -- Berry College split its matches on Friday at the Emory Invitational. The Vikes lost to top-ranked Juniata, 3-0, to begin the day. In the nightcap, Berry swept regional rival Washington & Lee 3-0.

In the first match, Juniata (28-1) won by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-20. Despite the defeat, Katie O'Rourke had a strong match with 10 kills and four blocks. She posted a .543 hitting percentage as well.

Lauren Schmitz notched 21 assists and Katie Truluck recorded 13 kills for the Vikes. Juniata hit .190 to BC's .081 for the match.

Berry swept W&L by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-7. Micayla Bedoian (.444 hitting percentage) spiked a team-high nine kills in the victory. Hannah Kate Thompson dished 12 assists for the Vikings.

Berry hit .236 in the match and held the Generals (17-13) to a paltry -.035 percentage. The Vikes led in blocks, 15-0.

"Today was a great way to start our post season," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. "We played a close match against an excellent Juniata team, and then had a solid win over regional opponent Washington & Lee. We are continuing to improve with every match which is the goal, especially this time of year."

The Vikings (21-6) play Bridgewater and Randolph-Macon to close the Emory Invite on Saturday.
