Berry Volleyball Takes Two on Senior Day

ROME, Ga. - - Led by senior Katie O'Rourke's 12 kills, the Berry College volleyball team defeated Millsaps College, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon. Set scores were 25-16,25-13 and 25-15. 

The win was the sixth straight for the Vikes, improving them to 19-5 overall and 10-3 in the Southern Athletic Association. The loss dropped the Majors to 12-12 and 6-7.

O'Rourke led the offensive attack as she hit .579 and added six blocks in the match. Micayla Bedoian added 10 kills in the victory. Jessica Gum hit .800 for the Vikes and added eight kills for BC.

Christina Goforth headed up the defense, collecting 23 digs for the Vikes. Katie Truluck recorded 14 digs in the win. Lauren Schmitz also dished 35 assists for Berry. 

For Millsaps, Mary Wilson spiked eight kills in the loss. 

To round out the Viking Senior Day, BC also hosted a match against Gulf Coast Community College. The Vikes won in three sets: 25-19, 25-13 and 25-16. 

O'Rourke had a team-best eight kills in the exhibition victory. Sarah Sprague and Gum both collected seven kills as well. On the defensive side, Truluck collected 18 digs, and Schmitz dished 30 assists. 

Saturday was also senior day and Emily Stromberg, Schmitz and O'Rourke were recognized.

The Vikings will host SAA-foe Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday. Game time is 2 p.m. and will kick-off the Colorful and Courageous event at the Cage Center.
