Softball sweeps Chapman and goes 4-0 in California

ORANGE, Calif. -- The Berry College softball team swept Chapman University on Tuesday. Game scores were 10-2 and 4-0.

The Vikings improved to 10-4 and went 4-0 in its Spring Break trip to the Golden State. Chapman dropped to 3-7 on the season.

In game one, Freshman Pitcher Kayla Davis (3-1) earned her second wins in as many days. She tossed another complete game, allowed one earned run and gave up seven hits.

Berry scored four times in the first inning and had ten hits in the game. Shelby Smith had a monster game as she went 3-4, scored twice, had a double, two home runs and seven RBI. Abby Daniels went 3-4 with a double and scored twice.

The nightcap was a pitcher's duel and BC's Allie Coronado (2-1) was the star. She had a no-hitter through four innings. Coronado (3-1) allowed two hits and garnered the complete game shutout. She had two complete games and two wins on the trip.

The Vikings plated one run in third inning. Allison DeBusk singled and was later drive in by a Haley Smith ground out. The score remained 1-0 until the final inning.

BC added three more runs in the seventh frame. The highlight was an inside-the-park homer by Sarah Brown. Daniels had two of Berry's nine hits in the contest

Berry opens Southern Athletic Association play at Rhodes College on March 15.
