Softball Splits at #15 Emory

ATLANTA – Berry College split a doubleheader at #15 Emory on Wednesday. The Vikings took game one, 8-6, but dropped the nightcap, 7-4. Emory is now 26-4 and Berry is 13-5.

In game one, Berry got off to a good start after plating two runs in the first inning, highlighted by aSarah Moore double.

BC trailed 3-2 heading to fourth. Rachel Bartoe hit a bases-clearing triple to give the Vikings a 5-3 edge.

In the seventh inning, a single by Marie Collop brought two insurance runs home. In the bottom of the seventh, Emory homered (their third of the game) to cut the margin to 8-6. Kayla Davis (6-1), however, earned the complete game win for BC. She allowed 12 hits and struck out two Eagles.

BC jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game two, but could not hang on for the sweep. Collop, Shelby Smith and Allison DeBusk all had two hits for the visitors.

Allie Coronado (4-2) took the loss for Berry. She allowed seven runs and 12 hits. Andrea Cole pitched a perfect final 2/3 inning for the Vikings.

The Vikings host Sewanee on Saturday. The SAA doubleheader begins at 12 p.m.
