Gaylor's big day helps Berry to 13-10 win over Bates

ROME, Ga. -- Stephen Gaylor went 4-5, scored two runs, stole one base and had an RBI as Berry College defeated Bates College, 13-10, on Tuesday.

The Vikings improved to 4-3 and Bates dropped its season opener.

Gaylor had a rare chance to go 5-5 when he stepped up to the plate in the eighth inning. He hit a grounder to shortstop Brendan Fox. Fox collected the ball--but hesitated--which resulted in the fielding error.

Grant Perkins went 3-3  and scored two runs for the home team. Alex McGill was 2-4 with with a home run and three RBI. Kevin Scott also had two hits for BC.

Bates chased starter Will Estes in the first inning. Estes allowed three walks and hit one batter in 2/3 inning. Chad Busby then pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Danny Parry entered the game in the fourth frame with BC trailing, 5-4. He tossed three innings, allowed two earned runs and secured his first win of the year. Joey Bell hurled a three-inning save to close the game for Berry.

The Bobcats were felled by seven errors and allowed 10 unearned runs. Both clubs collected 16 hits.

The same two teams play a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 1 p.m.
