ROME, Ga - - Zak Wallingford scored the only goal of the game as Berry College defeated Oglethorpe University 1-0 on Friday afternoon. Christian Fulbright earned the assist in the scoring play.

Winning their third straight game in a row, the victory starts the Vikings off undefeated in Southern Athletic Association play and bumps their season record up to 7-3. The Petrels dropped to 5-6-1.

Oglethorpe led in shots, 9-8, and corner kicks, 8-4, but the Vikings toughed it out for the Mountain Day Weekend crowd and found a way to hold off the visiting Petrels.

Both teams battled it out in the first half, but neither team could find the back of the net, leaving the scored tied 0-0 going into the second half.

Finally, in the 50th minute, Fulbright passed the ball to Wallingford who found an opening and shot the ball into the lower left corner for the lone goal of the day.

Oglethorpe fought back hard with five of their nine shots coming in the second half. However, Jon Nelson kept the Vikings ahead with his three saves of the game.

Vaughn Moore also had two saves for Oglethorpe in the loss.

Berry looks to keep their winning streak alive as they travel to Kentucky to play Centre College on Saturday October 11 at 7:30 PM.

The Vikings play at Centre College next Saturday.
