Softball Won Twice on Saturday

DANVILLE, Ky. -- Berry College won two elimination games on Saturday at the Southern Athletic Association Championships.

The Vikings (29-7) were scheduled to play a third elimination game on Saturday--versus Birmingham-Southern--but the contest was pushed to Sunday due to weather. The winner of the BC-BSC game faces Millsaps (unbeaten in the tournament) in the championship.

Berry 9, Hendrix 3

In its first elimination game, Berry ended Hendrix's (22-19) season with a 9-3 win. The Vikings plated four runs in top of the first inning and never looked back.

Berry knocked 11 hits in the game. Jessica Washington and Kristen Stoll each notched three hits in the contest. Lacey Herring went 2-4, with a home run, two runs and four RBI.

BC got a strong outing from freshman pitcher Allison Coronado. She improved to 10-4, tossed 6.1 innings, allowed three runs (two earned) and recorded two strikeouts. Caillee Shamoun entered in the bottom of the seventh inning and got the final two outs.

Berry 7, Centre 2

The Vikings then eliminated host Centre, which ended its season at 19-19.

Shamoun pitched a complete game and improved to 13-4. She allowed two runs, six hits, struck out six and walked one batter.

Stoll and Washington both had two hits. Abby Daniels and Natalie Boyd each had a solo home run for BC.
