Vikings and Panthers Split Twin Bill

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Berry College and Birmingham-Southern College split a conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Panthers took game one, 6-1, and the visiting Vikings prevailed in game two, 2-0.

Berry is now 23-9 and 15-5 in the Southern Athletic Association. BSC is 23-10, 14-3.

In the nightcap, freshman Allison Coronado (8-4) tossed a complete game shutout. She scattered four hits and struck out one Panther.

The game's only two runs came in the fourth inning. With one out, Shelby Smith homered to left-centerfield. Jessica Washington (2-3, RBI) later singled home pinch-runner Shakarah Boswell.

In game one, BSC busted open a 1-0 game by plating five runs in the sixth frame. Berry's Caillee Shamoun (9-3) took the defeat. She allowed six runs (four earned), eight hits but fanned four batters.

Kristen Stoll (1-3) doubled and had the only extra base hit in the game. Bethany Fronk (18-8) earned the win for the Panthers.

The teams play another twin bill on Sunday. Game one begins at 1 p.m. EDT.
