Vikings and Lynx Again Split SAA DH

ROME, Ga. – The Berry and Rhodes softball teams again split a doubleheader. The Vikings took game one, 5-1; the visiting Lynx won the nightcap, 2-1.

Berry is now 10-6 and 2-2 in the SAA. Rhodes is 8-6 and 2-2.

In the first game, Rhodes plated its run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at 1-1. In the bottom half of the frame, Berry exploded for four runs.

The highlight of the inning was a solo home run by Abby Daniels (2-2, 2 runs). The long ball was the first of the year for the Vikes. Teammate Jessica Washington went 2-4 with an RBI in the game.

Caillee Shamoun improved to 6-2 on the year and got the win. She allowed no earned runs and scattered three RC hits.

BC starter Allison Coronado took the defeat in the nightcap. She dropped to 1-2 for the season, allowed one run in the third inning, and five hits overall. Reliever Natalie Boyd allowed one run in the final four innings. She had five strikeouts and allowed one walk.

Berry tallied its run in the fifth inning. Daniels (2-4) singled home Kristen Stoll who earlier singled. Stoll went 4-4 with a triple to lead the Viking offense in game two.

Rhodes starting pitcher Forrest Skelton (5-2) hurled a complete game. She allowed one run, seven hits and collected four strikeouts.

Berry travels to Sewanee for two SAA doubleheaders next weekend. The first is Saturday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m.
