ROME, Ga. -- The Berry College Vikings returned to action in the Cage Center for the SAA semifinals against the Millsap Majors on Saturday. The Vikings swept the Majors 3-0, with the set scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-21. However, it was no easy feat for the home team.
"Millsaps is a team that's going to play hard from point one to point 25, and they showed that today," said Coach Mika Robinson. "They just went after everything--it didn't matter how well we were playing-they were going to give their absolute best and we knew that coming in."
The Vikings came out in the first set with high energy, but the Majors kept hanging on until Berry was able to pull away with a score of 25-18. The Vikings had a total of 16 kills while Millsaps ended the first set with 13 kills.
The second and third set proved to be challenging for the Vikings as they had to make a comeback to win the sets 25-18 and 25-21, respectively.
SAA Player of the Year, Stephanie Quinn once again showed why she is one of Berry's brightest stars, ending the game with five kills and 42 assists. Katie O'Rourke led the team with 13 kills with Emily Stromberg right behind her with 11 kills for the game.
After taking the win, the Vikings thanked their fans who helped show a lot of energy and support for the home team, even cheering "B-C-V" as the team attempted to make the final point to win and advance them to the championship game.
"It's the thing that this team has been working for all season: to be back in this position; to be playing for a championship on our home court," said Robinson. "We've already accomplished a lot of our goals for the season, but we still have more to come tomorrow--being the big one."
The Vikings return to the Cage tomorrow at 3 p.m. for the SAA Championship. The top-seeded Vikings play #3 seed Hendrix in the SAA Championship game.
